June 12th marks the 1st anniversary of the “Green Movement” in Iran; it marks the day on which Iranian people silent protest was met with batons and bullets.

On June 12th we will gather to show that the world has not forgotten about the Iranian people and their struggle for human rights and democracy; we will gather to be a voice for the prisoners of conscious in Iran; to tell their stories and put a face to their names.

The past few months has been tough for Iranian journalist, many of whom had to fled the country; they are in dire need for our help; we will collect donation on the behalf of “Reporters without Borders”.

CHRI is arranging a cycling event from Mel Lastman sq. to the Queen’s Park; starting at 11:30

Also as part of  “A Global Day of Action”, Amnesty International’s Human Rights for Iran Action Circle, along with IHRS (Iranian Human Rights Society at York University), will be collecting signatures for a paper chain petition (Event information can be found here). A photo and action of a “Prisoner of Conscience” or a death penalty case will be imprinted on each link in the chain, and members of the general public will be asked to sign their names on these links. The chain petition will be delivered to the Iranian Embassy at a later date.

Dear Minister Cannon
The Iranian regime has accelerated its spate of executions despite international condemnations. In addition to execution of a number of activists in the past few months, recently 11 political prisoners who were detained before or after the presidential elections in June 2009, have been condemned to death by the widely criticized show trials; from this group, five (including a teacher and women right activist) have already been executed (on May 9th) with many more in imminent danger.

Despite the regime’s claim that the executed activists belonged to a terrorist organization, it has failed to provide any proof whatsoever in that regard; as all observers have indicated, it is merely a tactic to mute widespread international condemnation.

There is a well justified concern that this would be a prelude to a more aggressive campaign of intimidation to silence and crush the now established Green movement by brute force.
We as Canadians have a duty and responsibility to break our silence and accelerate our efforts against the detention, torture and execution of peaceful demonstrators, political activists, minorities, writers, journalists and members of the Iranian civil society, by condemning torture, forced confessions and above all, the death penalty.
We expect our Canadian government to take a firm stance against the execution of political prisoners in Iran; we need to send a firm message to the Iranian government that the international community will hold them responsible and accountable for their actions; actions which warrants the same level of attention as the current nuclear issue.

It is a great opportunity for Canada, as the indisputable champion of human rights causes, to put Iran’s human rights issues on the U.N. agenda.

Spring is here; green shoots sprouting everywhere; nature is rejuvenating and awaking from its long sleep during the cold and dark days of winter; however there is something amiss; hope and youth is still imprisoned amid the dark walls of the Evin prison; some condemned to death, others in solidarity confinement.
Light a candle, as a show of solidarity; to remind them that we have not forgotten them; that, the World has not forgotten them; as banning “spring birds” won’t delay the nature’s renewal; jailing the messengers of freedom can’t stop the awakening of a nation.

سال روز تولد ۲۷ سالگی ندا آقا سلطان، نماد آزادی ایران است
ایرانیان خارج از میهن به همین منظور، به طور همزمان و یک پارچه در سراسر جهان در محلهای مناسب تجمع خواهند کرد. شرکت کنندگان در ساعت ۴ به افرختن شمع و اهدا شاخههای گل سرخ به فرشته آزاده گی و دیگر جانباختگان جنبش مردمی، بدون شعار و در سکوتی پر معنا برای اعتراض به دستگیری، شکنجه و کشتار مردم توسط رهبران حکومت اسلامی و حامیان آنان گرد هم میآیند. در تورنتو مراسم ویژه ای به همین مناسبت درروز شنبه شنبه ۲۳ ژانویه در سالن اجتماعات شهرداری نورت یورک برگزار میگردد،
سپس در کنار درختان یادبود ندا و سهراب برای شمع افروزی گرد هم خواهیم آمد در این برنامه آقای کاسپین ماکان، نامزد ندا نیز حضور خواهند داشت به امید اتحاد همه گروهها و حزب ها در راه آزادی وطن

تورنتو در ۱۲ دسامبر ۲۰۰۹، روز شنبه با همکاری گروههای حقوق بشری در شهر برنامه ای را در دانشگاه تورنتو، اتاق  (سی ۱۵۴) در ساختمان اویزی(۲۵۲ خیابان بلور)  از ساعت ۵:۳۰ تا ۷:۳۰ برگزار میکند.این برنامه با محوریت هنر و حقوق بشر به مناسبت روز جهانی حقوق بشر با همکاری سازمان اتحاد برای ایران به عنوان یک برنامه بدون خط مشی سیاسی در سراسر جهان برگزار خواهد شد. ۱۲ دسامبر در حقیقت ششمین ماهگرد انتخابات ایران و شروع اعتراضات خیابانی آرام مردم ایران نیز بوده است، با حضور خود همراهی و همدردی خود را با جنبش مردمی ایران اعلام نمایید.

In response to “call for global action” for the “International Day of Human Rights” various groups comprised of human right activist, student and community based groups have joined forces to organize an event to raise awareness about the Human Rights in general and struggle of Iranian people for their basic human rights in particular.

Through an artistic lens -and without any partisan affiliation- this event aims to raise awareness about the International Day of Human Rights, similar events are happening around the globe through “Call to Action” by United4Iran.

December 12 is the 6 month anniversary of the elections in Iran; the peaceful protest that ensued and subsequent brutal response by the regime. With your presence, show your support for Iranian people and their struggle for freedom and basic human rights.
