June 12th: Global Day of Action; 1st anniversary of the “Green Movement”

گردهم می آییم تا همراه و هم صدا با مردم ایران، بازتاب صدای آزادی خواهی و دموکراسی طلبی آنها باشیم.

June 12th marks the 1st anniversary of the “Green Movement” in Iran; it marks the day on which Iranian people silent protest was met with batons and bullets.
On June 12th we will gather to show that the world has not forgotten about the Iranian people and their struggle for human rights and democracy; we will gather to be a voice for the prisoners of conscious in Iran; to tell their stories and put a face to their names.
The past few months has been tough for Iranian journalist, many of whom had to fled the country; they are in dire need for our help; we will collect donation on the behalf of “Reporters without Borders”.
CHRI is arranging a cycling event from Mel Lastman sq. to the Queen’s Park; starting at 11:30
Also as part of “A Global Day of Action”, Amnesty International’s Human Rights for Iran Action Circle, along with IHRS (Iranian Human Rights Society at York University), will be collecting signatures for a paper chain petition (Event information can be found here). A photo and action of a “Prisoner of Conscience” or a death penalty case will be imprinted on each link in the chain, and members of the general public will be asked to sign their names on these links. The chain petition will be delivered to the Iranian Embassy at a later date.
